The ultimate goal of celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage is to enrich the faith life of each spouse, which is (hopefully) already being practiced. However, we realize that not everyone is on the “same spiritual page.” Therefore, this may be a time of grace to re-commit yourselves to the Lord and to promise to return to attending Sunday Mass regularly as a couple before your wedding day, so that when you are married in church, you are already comfortable in this place of worship and in the Lord’s House.
Here at Saint Joseph Church we do not marry anyone that is not a member of our parish community (or is not related to the church or our former Saint Joseph School). Completing the Parish Census is not sufficient for becoming a member of the parish. Living in the Newton area and practicing your faith on a weekly basis is what is required to be married in our parish.
Because we are so close to many wedding venues in Sussex County, it is not our desire to "rent" our church to couples just because it is close to their reception. Therefore, celebrating your special wedding day should take place in the parish of the bride or the groom or wherever you attend Mass reguarly.
Before anyone considers being married in our parish, we ask that you complete the Parish Census (either online or in person at the Parish Center Office), receive offertory envelopes and present yourself to the pastor so he can know your face and names.
Celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage is not only something that the bride and groom celebrate with their respective families, but also something that is joyfully shared with your parish family here in Newton.
We welcome any and all couples that desire to have their marriage blessed by the Church and encourage you to become an active part of our worshipping community.
